Is it possible to have more than one protocol on a network

Hi,
I am a cyber security student at GCU currently doing my 4th year honours project. The research question that I am currently working from is "A simulation investigation of the effects on perfomance when multiple routing protocols are adopted across a network". So my question just now is, Is it really possible to have more than one protocol working on a network? if so then links to some external sources that i would read or similar papers i could read would be amazing. Thank you for your time reading my question.

Help me please

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
